Save the Wetlands

Welcome to West Creek Nature House, where conservation meets education.

Join us in preserving the wonders of our wetlands in B.C. and learn about how vital they are to human survival including flood prevention, freshwater supply, climate change mitigation and much more.

West Creek is a significant, biodiverse wetland situated in the Township of Langley. Presently, there is a proposal before council to industrialize the land which would destroy old growth forest, salmon bearing streams, migratory bird nesting sites, significant biodiversity and a wonderful upwelling of water.

Beaver, deer and a wide variety of plants and animals thrive together on this land. Thousands of trees will be cut down and the wetlands will be destroyed if action isn't taken to prevent industrialization. The land in question has been fenced off which indicates the first sign of development. First Nations have stepped in to protect these lands and the salmon that thrive there, but we all need to step up and advocate to preserve this land for future generations.

Spirit In The Sky

For some time now, Ted Lightfoot and other local advocates have been meeting with First Nations groups to save wetland areas and salmon habitat. At each meeting on the Lightfoots property adjacent to West Creek, Ted took notice of a bald eagle perched on a Willow tree above the meeting table in the backyard. This gave him the inspiration to build an eagle using juniper wood, copper and faux fur. The significance of a keystone species such as the eagle being present during meetings held for wetland and salmon habitat preservation is amazing!               March, 2024
